Porsche, Toyota, Land Rover and Volvo issue vehicle safety recalls in Canada
The recalls, posted by Transport Canada, affect models for problems including potential wheel separation and fuel leaks.
Transport Canada posted new safety recall notices affecting Porsche, Land Rover, Toyota and Volvo vehicles during the week of Oct. 19 to 23. The recalls address various defects that could increase the risk of a crash or fire. Owners of the affected models will be contacted by mail with instructions to have their vehicles inspected and repaired at dealerships. The federal agency listed the details for each manufacturer's recall on its website.
Porsche has expanded an existing recall, numbered 2024-646 by Transport Canada, for certain models with optional central locking wheels. The centre wheel locks on some vehicles may have been improperly manufactured and could break. This failure could lead to a wheel separating from the vehicle while driving. "A wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a wheel that separates could create a hazard for others," the recall notice from Oct. 20 stated. Porsche's advisory instructs owners not to drive their cars until repairs are done.
Dealers will arrange to tow the affected Porsche vehicles for service. The centre wheel locks will be inspected and replaced if necessary at no cost to the owner. The recall does not apply to vehicles without the optional central locking wheel equipment. Land Rover is recalling 2022 to 2026 model year Range Rover vehicles due to a problem with the rear-view camera. Water intrusion into the camera housing may cause the backup image to display incorrectly or not at all. "A rear-view camera image that doesn’t display properly could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash," according to the Oct. 20 recall notice. Owners will be asked to bring their vehicle to a dealership for an inspection.

If a faulty camera is found, it will be replaced. Technicians will also add drainage holes to the tailgate trim to prevent future water leakage. The number of vehicles involved in Canada was not specified in the notice. Toyota announced two separate recalls. The first involves 2024 to 2027 Land Cruiser models where a plastic fuel tube connection may fail. This could allow fuel to leak from the tank and potentially cause the engine to stall. "A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire," the Oct. 19 recall said. Dealers will inspect the connection and install a securing clamp, replacing the plastic tube if needed.
The second Toyota recall covers more than 24,000 2022 to 2026 Sienna Hybrid minivans. A mechanism in the second-row seats may unlock if the seatbelt pretensioner activates, allowing the seatback to move during a collision. This could increase the risk of injury to occupants. Toyota will notify owners to schedule a dealership visit for the necessary repairs.
Volvo is recalling 2025 and 2026 EX30 and EX30 Cross Country models due to an issue with the front seat headrests. The cushions inside the head restraints may not be properly attached. In a crash, a cushion could shift or come loose. "A head restraint cushion that moves or detaches in a crash could increase the risk of an injury," stated the recall last updated on Oct. 16. Volvo dealers will fix the attachment of the head restraint cushions.
