Halloween night across Quebec is expected to be dry and relatively mild, according to the latest forecasts from Environment Canada. The weather agency predicts a sunny day on Saturday, Oct. 31, for much of southern Quebec with temperatures slightly above seasonal norms. The forecasts, published on Monday, Oct. 26, suggest favourable conditions for trick-or-treating, though clouds may increase in the evening. The week leading up to Halloween, however, will see significant temperature swings across the province.

In Montreal, Environment Canada forecasts a sunny Saturday with a high of 11 C, which is slightly above the seasonal norm of 10 C. Clouds are expected to move in during the evening, with a 30 percent chance of showers overnight and a low of 7 C. The Outaouais region, including Gatineau, can expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 12 C, compared to a seasonal norm of around 9 C. The evening will become cloudy, but temperatures will not drop below 8 C, making it one of the mildest evenings in the province. In the Capitale-Nationale region, Quebec City is forecast to have a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 9 C, a bit above the norm of 8 C. The evening is expected to be dry under cloudy periods, with the temperature sliding to 4 C. Rain is more likely on Friday, which is forecast to be cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. The Eastern Townships will see some of the warmest conditions, with Sherbrooke expecting a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 13 C, six degrees above the seasonal norm of 7 C. The evening should stay dry under cloudy periods, with a low of 3 C, though Friday also carries a 60 percent chance of showers there. The mild weather will be preceded by a volatile week. Temperatures are forecast to plunge to near-freezing or below in many areas from Tuesday into Wednesday. Montreal could see a low of 0 C, Quebec City and Gatineau could drop to -4 C, and Sherbrooke could fall to -9 C. A striking contrast will follow on Thursday, with highs expected to reach 19 C in Montreal and Gatineau. The reprieve will be short-lived, as Sunday brings a return of rain chances, with a 60 percent chance of showers in Montreal, 40 percent in Gatineau and 30 percent in Sherbrooke. As forecasts can still change before Saturday, Environment Canada advises residents to keep an eye on updates for their region. The agency notes that the path to Halloween will be "pas mal sinueux," or quite winding, with the mercury playing yo-yo all week. The weather on Halloween itself, however, appears to be leaving residents alone, with sun expected for preparations in southern Quebec.
