Paris tops Air Canada Vacations romance list for 2026

Paris, France, has been named the top romance destination for 2026 in Air Canada Vacations' second annual Travellers' Top Picks Awards.

More than 1.3 million Canadians voted on the awards, which highlight 10 categories of destinations and experiences on Canadians' travel wish lists.

"The Travellers' Top Picks Awards offer a fascinating glimpse into the places inspiring Canadians to plan their next getaway and seek out new experiences," said Selma Filali, senior director of marketing and digital at Air Canada Vacations.

"This year's results highlight a compelling mix of iconic destinations and emerging discoveries, reflecting Canadians' growing curiosity to explore beyond the familiar."

Paris, known for world-famous monuments like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, topped the romance category for its "romantic atmosphere, iconic landmarks and timeless charm," according to one Canadian voter.

New York City won the city break category for a second straight year.

"New York is my favourite city break destination. From iconic landmarks and Broadway shows to incredible food and vibrant neighbourhoods, every visit feels like a new adventure," said one Canadian voter.

Another said, "Quick weekend city break? Of course, I'll go to the city that never sleeps."

The hidden gem category was topped by Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, which one voter called "hands down one of the surprises of my travel life. Stunning beauty. The best of everything." Another described it as a "hidden gem. Quiet, and food is great."

Nassau, Bahamas, won the family vacation category, with Air Canada Vacations noting its "dreamily designed" resorts and blue lagoons.

"The Bahamas has something for every family member," said one voter, while another noted its "beautiful beaches" and "all-inclusive hotels designed with children in mind."

Mexico's Riviera Maya was crowned the top beach vacation destination, described by the company as "the world's most famous beach destination" with "sparkling coasts."

"The colour of the ocean is breathtaking," said a voter, with another praising its "great sandy beaches everywhere. You can find whatever you want there, whether you're looking for sun and tranquility or fun and adventure."

The bucket list category was won by Italy's Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of five cliffside villages.

"It feels like something out of a postcard," said one Canadian, while another noted, "It has been on my bucket list for such a long time."

Phuket, Thailand, took the wellness category, described as a "world of wellness" with hydrotherapy treatments and meditation retreats.

"Thailand makes me think of wellness and escape, taking time to reflect and learn from this unique culture," said one traveller. Another said it was "just a beautiful place to truly relax."

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, won the adventure category, noted for activities like climbing Sugarloaf Mountain and surfing in Arpoador.

"I love adventures, and Rio is jam-packed with tons of adventures. Plus, the sun, beach and history are awesome," said one voter.

Santiago, Chile, was the foodie favourite, praised for "epic food offerings" from street vendor empanadas to wine from the Maipo Valley.

"Santiago, Chile, is a vibrant mix of heart, traditional comfort foods and globally acclaimed, modern tasting menus. East meets west, and north meets south. Simply divine cuisine," said one Canadian voter.

Prague, Czech Republic, won the arts and culture category, with must-see attractions like the Prague Castle and the Rudolfinum concert hall.

"Culturally, a wonderful experience," said one voter. Another said, "So much to see. A space where everywhere you turn is history."
