Kevin Gausman, the former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher, wore a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey for Halloween as he approaches free agency this week. His wife, Taylor, posted an Instagram photo on Saturday showing the family trick-or-treating with Gausman in an Auston Matthews jersey. The photo's location was not specified, but it did not appear to be in Toronto, suggesting it may have been taken at the family's offseason home in Louisiana. The image has added fuel to existing rumours about a potential return to the Blue Jays for the 35-year-old right-hander.

Gausman last played for Toronto in August before he was traded to the Chicago Cubs prior to the MLB trade deadline. The Blue Jays, not seen as playoff contenders at that point, opted to move the pending free agent. In Chicago, Gausman recorded a 4.83 earned-run average and a 4-3 record across 50.1 regular-season innings, helping the Cubs reach the postseason. He took the loss in his sole playoff start, and the Cubs were subsequently swept by the San Diego Padres in the National League Wildcard series.

The Blue Jays' starting rotation for the 2027 season currently lists Dylan Cease, Trey Yesavage and José Soriano as confirmed members. Other pitchers like Cody Ponce, José Berríos and Spencer Arrighetti could also join the group. Gausman, a veteran known for reliable performances, brings experience and existing familiarity with the Toronto organization. His Halloween costume choice has intensified speculation that he could be a fit for the team's needs. Despite the fan interest in a reunion, Gausman recently listed his Toronto mansion for $6.8 million. That sale could indicate his plans lie elsewhere. Regardless of his next destination, Blue Jays supporters are wishing the best for Gausman and his family, acknowledging his apparent fondness for the city.
