Quebec parents will receive up to $680 per child this week with the October payment of the Canada child benefit.

The deposit from the Canada Revenue Agency is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Eligibility requires that a child under 18 lives with the parent and that the parent is primarily responsible for their care.

The parent must also reside in Canada for tax purposes and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person, a temporary resident who has been in the country for at least 18 months, or registered under the Indian Act.

For children who split time between two homes, the CRA does not consider a parent eligible if the child lives with them less than 40 percent of the time.

If the child lives with each parent between 40 and 60 percent of the time, it is considered shared custody, and each parent receives half of the full benefit amount based on their own income.

The full benefit amounts in effect from July 2026 to June 2027 are paid to families whose 2025 adjusted family net income is below $38,237.

Above that threshold, the CRA reduces the benefit by a portion of the excess income, with the reduction increasing with the number of children.

The next two benefit deposits are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 20 and Friday, Dec. 11, 2026.

The CRA advises parents who do not see the payment in their account by Tuesday evening to wait five business days before calling.

Parents can sign up for the CRA's payment reminders, which provide notice about a week before each deposit, and check the expected amount in My Account.

Like several other federal benefits and credits for families, this aid arrives without an annual form to fill out and does not add to a tax bill.

All details are available on the official Canada child benefit page.
