The recalls, issued by Transport Canada, affect models from Ram, Volkswagen, Kia, Hyundai, GM, Land Rover and Ford.

Automakers have issued a series of safety recalls in Canada affecting more than 84,000 vehicles for problems including fire risk, loss of power steering and faulty airbags.

Stellantis issued two recalls for its Ram brand, according to Transport Canada.

The first recall, an expansion of a previous one, affects just over 600 model year 2026 Ram 2500 pickup trucks.

A problem with the steering column control module could cause the electronic stability control system not to work, the recall said.

“An electronic stability control system that doesn’t work could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 6.

The second Ram recall affects more than 20,000 model year 2022 to 2026 ProMaster vans.

Water could enter the electric power steering system, causing corrosion in the wiring harness and a sudden loss of power steering assist.

“A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds, and increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 9.

Volkswagen recalled more than 5,000 model year 2023 to 2025 ID.4 electric SUVs.

The high-voltage battery could overheat on some vehicles.

“A battery that overheats can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 9.

Volkswagen advises owners to set the maximum charge of their vehicle at 80 per cent until recall repairs are completed.

Kia recalled about 48,000 Seltos SUVs over a risk of a short circuit that could create a fire risk. Novello Desserts reported earlier this month that the recall affects all-wheel drive models.

Hyundai recalled 110 model year 2010 Elantra and 2011 Elantra Touring cars.

The driver-front airbag inflator could rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash.

“An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury or death,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 7.

General Motors issued a recall for more than 10,000 model year 2025 to 2027 Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs.

A software problem could cause the window’s automatic reversal system not to work when using the key fob to close the front power windows.

“A window that doesn’t stop and automatically reverse could create a risk of injury,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 9.

GM will send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles.

Another GM recall affects several Chevrolet and GMC pickup truck models.

The side curtain airbag inflators could be defective and could deploy without a crash.

Land Rover issued three separate recalls.

One recall affects 38 model year 2024 Defender SUVs because the second-row seatbelts may not have been stitched properly.

“A seatbelt that doesn’t work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 7.

Another recall affects 155 model year 2024 to 2026 Range Rover Sport SUVs because the rear subframe may be cracked.

“A loss of control could create the risk of a crash,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 8.

A third recall affects one model year 2025 or 2026 Range Rover Sport in Canada because the powertrain control module may not have been manufactured properly, which could cause the engine to stall.

Ford issued a recall for certain Expedition SUVs and Super Duty pickup trucks equipped with LED headlamps.

The headlamp assemblies may not have been manufactured properly, causing lights to be dim or not work.

“Headlamps, parking lamps and/or daytime running lights (DRLs) that don’t work properly could reduce visibility and make the vehicle less visible to other road users. This could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, last updated Oct. 7.

In each case, the automakers said they will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership for inspection and repair.
