Volkswagen, Jeep recall nearly 17,000 vehicles in Canada for software, crossbar issues

Volkswagen and Jeep are recalling nearly 17,000 vehicles in Canada for a software problem that could cut power while driving and for loose roof crossbars that may detach.

Volkswagen has issued a recall on 10,435 2025 Tiguans over a software problem that could cause the body control module to reset while driving, resulting in the possibility of the ignition switching off.

There could be a loss of power to the wheels, as well as a loss of certain controls, warning lights, malfunction warnings and the rearview camera system, according to the Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database.

“A loss of power to the wheels, exterior lights that don’t work, and/or controls, warnings and tell-tales that don’t display could increase the risk of a crash,” the notice warns.

“A rearview camera image that doesn’t display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up, which could also increase the risk of a crash.”

The recall notice states the software problem could cause the body control module to reset while the vehicle is in motion.

Volkswagen will notify impacted owners by mail with instructions advising them to take the SUV to a dealership to update the BCM software.

Separately, more than 6,500 Jeep Wagoneers have been recalled due to crossbar issues that can potentially result in a crash.

The pivot bolt(s) securing the crossbars to the vehicles’ roofs “may not have been tightened properly,” according to the notice on the Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database issued by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).

“As a result, the crossbar(s) could detach from the vehicle,” the company warned of the 6,537 affected, adding that it “could cause a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.”

The years and models affected are 2022 to 2025 Wagoneer L and 2022 to 2026 Grand Wagoneer L models.

FCA Canada will notify affected vehicle owners by mail, advising them to take their vehicles to a dealership to inspect and secure the roof crossbar(s), as necessary.

FCA acquired Jeep in 2014 and both are now part of the Stellantis Group.

The recalls were listed in the federal government's Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database.
