Costco and Health Canada recall DREO space heaters over fire and burn hazards
The recall affects 36,288 units sold across Canada and the U.S., with reports of incidents.
Costco and Health Canada are recalling a portable space heater sold at the retailer's warehouses and online due to fire and burn hazards. The recall notice warns consumers to immediately stop using the DREO Portable Oscillating Ceramic Heater, model number DR-HSH015. The affected units were sold at Costco locations and on Costco.ca from September 2025 to February 2026. Health Canada said 36,288 of the heaters were sold in Canada during that period, with another 338,800 sold in the United States.
The recall notice posted on Costco's website states the heaters can overheat and ignite. "The recalled space heaters can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards," the notice says. Consumers are instructed to unplug the heater and contact DREO for a free replacement. The company can be reached by phone at 1-833-820-0887, by email at [email protected], or through its recall website.
Health Canada issued its own recall notice last week. The agency said that as of Oct. 22, DREO had received one report of an incident in Canada with no injuries. There were also 16 reports of incidents in the United States, with one reported injury. The recall affects heaters with Costco item number 1910772 and date codes from 2025/04 to 2026/01, which are printed on a label on the bottom of the unit.

"If your unit is affected, immediately stop using the recalled space heater, unplug it, and contact DREO for a free replacement," the Costco alert says. The company says a receipt is not required to participate in the recall program. "A receipt is not required as long as the heater is an affected unit and you can provide the necessary product information," DREO states. To receive a replacement, owners must register online and upload a photo showing the heater is an affected model and has been disabled. "If your space heater is recalled, please immediately stop using it, and begin the registration process to receive a free replacement," the recall website says. "You’ll need to upload a photo of the space heater documenting that it is an affected unit and has been properly disabled." Once registration is confirmed, a new heater will be shipped.
The company apologized for the inconvenience in its notice. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask you to please pass this recall notice along to anyone to whom the DREO brand Space Heater may have been given," the notice says. This is the latest in a series of consumer product recalls in Canada. Novello Desserts reported in October that Health Canada recalled baby nests sold at several retailers due to a potential fall hazard.
