TORONTO · The Distillery Winter Village, a sprawling holiday market in Toronto, will return for its 17th year on Nov. 12, bringing new attractions including an immersive Nutcracker experience and a Canadian-themed tavern. The event transforms the pedestrian-only Distillery Historic District into a seasonal destination with thousands of lights, a 55-foot Christmas tree and more than 50 food vendors and outdoor bars. It will run until Jan. 3, 2027, closing only on Christmas Day. Admission is free on many days, but paid tickets are required during select peak hours starting at $16.

The biggest new addition is The Immersive Nutcracker, an indoor attraction at The Fermenting Cellar featuring floor-to-ceiling projections that recreate scenes from the Christmas story. The experience includes interactive games and themed treats and requires a separate admission ticket. Santa's Village inside Soulpepper Theatre has been redesigned as a vintage European department store, where families can meet Santa, write letters and attend daily Storytime with the Elves. Other new features include the Canuck Tavern, a Canadian-themed patio with fire pits and hockey on a big screen, and the Quince Cashmere Cabin, a gingerbread-inspired shop. The market will also host the Costa Rica's Río Celeste Chocolate Waterfall, offering chocolate-covered fruit and an augmented reality experience. The event officially kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 12 at 4 p.m., where the newly redesigned 55-foot silver fir will be illuminated.

More than 50 food vendors will operate this season, including new additions like Prince St. Pizza, Carousel Bakery, Potato Bar, Sweet Crumble and Peacock Bakehouse. Returning favourites include A5 Wagyu Sando, torched s'mores hot chocolate, Monkey Bread and the Yorkie Burrito from Spirit of York. Chef's Lane also returns with exclusive dishes from chefs including Michael Angeloni and Afrim Pristine. For drinks, visitors can visit the Naughty or Nice Bar, dance at the new Silent Night Disco on a heated patio, or grab a flavoured matcha at Merry Matcha. The market is home to unique holiday gifts from local makers and Canadian businesses, with more than 90 permanent shops and new marketplaces like The Cooperage Marketplace and Maplee Market offering more independent brands.

The Distillery Winter Village is open seven days a week, with daily opening at noon and closing at 9 p.m., extending to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Free entry is offered all day Monday to Wednesday through Dec. 13, and during other non-ticketed periods. Paid entry is required on opening night, on Fridays through Sundays after 4 p.m., on Thursdays in December after 4 p.m., and daily after 4 p.m. from Dec. 14 to 31. Children aged nine and under enter for free without a ticket.
